We believe you deserve to know exactly how we make money — and why it doesn't change a word we write.
Last updated: March 14, 2025What is an affiliate link?
When you click a product link on PetsBigStore and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission from the retailer. This is called an affiliate commission, and it comes at no extra cost to you whatsoever — the price you pay is identical whether you use our link or go directly to the retailer's website.
Think of it like a referral fee: if you told a friend about a great product and they bought it, some shops would pay you a finder's fee. That's essentially what affiliate links are.
These commissions are what allow us to keep PetsBigStore running — funding the time, products, and testing that goes into every review we publish.
Which affiliate programs do we use?
We partner with several well-established affiliate networks and retailers. Here's a full list of every programme we currently participate in:
-
Amazon Associates (IN / US / UK / DE / AU) As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases made on Amazon's regional storefronts. Commission rates vary by product category, typically 1–10%.
-
Chewy Affiliate Program We link to Chewy for US-based readers looking for pet food, supplies, and treats. Chewy's programme is managed via Impact Radius.
-
Zooplus Affiliate Programme For our European readers, we link to Zooplus — one of Europe's largest online pet retailers. Managed via Awin.
-
Petco Affiliate Program We may earn commissions from Petco purchases made through our links. This programme is managed via CJ Affiliate (Commission Junction).
-
ShareASale & CJ Pet Networks We participate in various pet-industry affiliate programmes hosted on ShareASale and CJ Affiliate. These include specialist brands for food, accessories, and veterinary products.
How does this affect our reviews?
It doesn't. Every recommendation on this site is based on independent testing, expert analysis, and honest assessment — not affiliate commission rates. We recommend products because they're genuinely good, not because they pay us more.
In practice, this means we regularly recommend products from retailers who pay lower commissions (or none at all) when those products are the best fit for our readers. Our testing methodology is applied uniformly regardless of which brands are involved.
We also publish negative assessments and "avoid" verdicts on products even when they're available through our affiliate links. Our reputation with readers matters far more to us than any individual commission.
How do I identify affiliate links?
All outbound affiliate links on PetsBigStore use the HTML attributes rel="sponsored nofollow", in line with Google's guidelines and FTC requirements. You can spot them by hovering over a link — if it contains a tracking parameter (such as tag=, ref=, or aff_id=) in the URL, it's an affiliate link.
Our "Check Price" and "Buy Now" buttons on product pages are affiliate links. Links within editorial body text may also be affiliate links and will carry the appropriate rel attributes.
Where a product we mention genuinely has no affiliate programme (or we've chosen not to participate), we still link to it — we just won't earn a commission from those clicks.
Do you accept paid reviews or sponsored content?
No — and we never have. We do not accept payment from brands or manufacturers in exchange for reviews, editorial mentions, or favourable coverage of any kind. We also do not accept free products in exchange for guaranteed positive write-ups. Any product gifted for review is clearly disclosed, and our assessment remains entirely independent regardless.
If a brand contacts us requesting paid placement or a sponsored review, we decline. If you ever see something that looks like undisclosed sponsorship on our site, please let us know — we take that seriously.
